Charity: Chuf
Chuf’s Heart Heroes are born with or acquire their heart condition in childhood. Many will spend long periods of time in hospital, returning time and again for check-ups, operations and treatment over the course of a lifetime. For these children and their families, it’s scary and can feel very lonely. Throughout it all Chuf is there.
The charity supports the Children’s Heart Unit at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital and 6 other cardiac clinics in hospitals across the North. The Children’s Heart Unit is 1 of only 2 places for paediatric heart and lung transplant in the UK, meaning the most complex cardiac cases are treated here. We’re fortunate to have world-class care in the Northeast, but it’s no secret that our NHS faces tough times in terms of funding and resource. Chuf provides equipment and services that go above and beyond NHS capacity, ensuring Heart families are supported through the most frightening and difficult times.
Funds raised help Chuf to ensure smoother care pathways to give Heart Heroes the best chances to not just survive, but to thrive. They bring specialist staffing that isn’t available anywhere else and ground-breaking research to hopefully improve treatment for future generations. The charity also offers practical support to families with things like food vouchers and emergency accommodation as well as raising smiles on trying days through holistic services such as music therapy and the Clown Doctor Programme. Chuf is for hearts, for families, for life.
I wanted to say congratulations on another successful NEAA, incredibly well run and I appreciate all the hard work and effort it takes.
